INDUSTRY NEWS

New caps for International students
in the VET sector from 1 January 2025

Last week the government announced that new higher education and vocational education international students will be capped at 270,000 from 1 January 2025, if the necessary legislation is passed in the Senate.

While the total cap is designed to get us back to “pre-pandemic” levels, the VET cap will sit around 95,000, which is just 40% of 2018 levels.

Providers with a higher ratio of international students will receive a lower allocation, which means many providers will need to rethink their strategy going forward.

With a lot of valuable commentary taking place online in the past week, we’d like to hear your thoughts on the issue and how the health and prosperity of the VET sector can be assured.
